Electric daisy is commonly known to as the toothache plant because people have traditionally chewed its flower buds and new leaves to numb their gums and mouths and calm tooth pain. Spilanthes has also been used in a similar fashion to Echinacea in the treatment of canker sores. Spilanthes has been shown to possess antibacterial and antifungal properties and has been used as a purifying herb for disinfecting wounds and curing ringworm infections. Spilanthes is also used as an antiparasitic and native remedy against malaria in the tropics.
