THE AUSTRALIAN SUPERFOOD CO LEMON MYRTLE

The Lemon Myrtle, a captivating Australian shrub, has been an integral part of Indigenous Australian practices, with its leaves serving diverse purposes. Whether used fresh, dried, or extracted through distillation, Lemon Myrtle has been a traditional flavoring agent and healing oil, boasting notable antioxidant and mineral properties, elevated levels of Vitamin C, and a rich antimicrobial oil content. Recognized for its strong and pure natural citral, providing the distinctive “lemon” flavor, Lemon Myrtle stands as one of Australia’s most popular native herbs. With a fresh citrus aroma, delicate menthol undertones, and a sweet and refreshing lemon flavor, it contains the most concentrated source of plant citral (>90%), possessing potent antimicrobial and antifungal properties surpassing even the renowned tea tree oil. Beyond its culinary appeal, Lemon Myrtle is an exceptional vegan source of calcium and a rich source of lutein, crucial for eye health and combating age-related macular degeneration. Its antioxidant-rich composition provides comprehensive protection against oxidative stress, surpassing the blueberry in antioxidant capacity. Additionally, Lemon Myrtle is an excellent source of folate, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, zinc, and magnesium, essential for DNA synthesis and repair. Traditionally utilized as a medicinal herb for alleviating headaches, Lemon Myrtle is a multifaceted botanical treasure.

Additional Information

Lemon myrtle spice is perfect for use in both sweet and savoury dishes. It’s perfect for flavouring jam and preserves, as well as salad dressings, marinades, mayonnaise, savoury and sweet sauces, sorbet and ice cream. Use as a substitute for lemongrass in Asian dishes. Use lemon myrtle in cooking to impart an intense citrus flavour. It pairs well with cream and fruit based desserts, cheese, cakes and biscuits. Perfectly complements a variety of fruit, in particular apple, pear, citrus, tropical (banana, mango, papaya, pineapple), watermelon and coconut. Use on roasted root vegetables: sweet potato, pumpkin, beetroot, carrot, turnip, parsnip. Just combine it with olive oil, garlic, fresh herbs (such as rosemary, oregano and thyme) and sea salt and sprinkle it over your veggies. This combination also makes the perfect baste for roast chicken and pork. Rub into fish before pan-frying and finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, or mix with butter, garlic and sea salt, and smear over corn on the cob.
